Narita International Airport Corporation announces new President and CEO
Tokyo, June 22, 2007: Mr. Kosaburo Morinaka was appointed as the new President and CEO of Narita International Airport Corporation effective today. Mr. Morinaka’s appointment results from his proven international experience in management, his ability to understand customer needs and produce innovative ideas in career at Sumitomo Corporation spanning more than 30 years.
“I have been using Narita Airport for a long time as a customer, and I am excited to become involved in one of the most important gateway airports in Asia. I am very proud to have been appointed and I am delighted to be able to contribute to Japan’s future,” said Mr. Morinaka.
Before joining NAA, Mr. Morinaka was a Member of the Board at Sumitomo Corporation. Prior to that he was Executive Vice President at Sumitomo
Corporation. In his long distinguished career he has achieved numerous successes in infrastructure projects in a number of countries. He is well known for his vast contribution to society globally and domestically on behalf of Japanese business organizations. Mr. Morinaka is a graduate of Keio University.
Mr. Morinaka takes over from Mr. Masahiko Kurono, who steps down today after completing his appointed term as President & CEO.
Mr. Kurono will continue to serve at NAA as Senior Executive Advisor. In overseeing NAA’s privatization in 2004, he has implemented
a number of cost cutting measures, and successfully reduced landing charges by 21% in 2005.
Under his strong leadership, the construction on the parallel runway extension project got underway in 2006 and is slated for completion by March 2010 at the latest.
Mr. Kurono also initiated the Narita Rapid Railway Access Project which will begin service in 2010.
Meanwhile, Mr. Harubumi Kobori, Senior Vice President, has been promoted to Senior Executive Vice President. With more than 35 years of experience in management and operations at NAA, Mr. Kobori brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to his new position to contribute to the future expansion of NAA in the aviation business. In addition to his many responsibilities as the second executive in command, he will oversee corporate planning, international policy and planning, and corporate communications.
Narita Airport is owned and operated by Narita International Airport Corporation. The company is the successor to Narita Airport Authority after privatization in 2004. The airport handled 35 million passengers and 2.2 million tons of cargo last year
